OLIAROS invited in panel discussion organized by Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD)
Debating Design and Innovation in Times of Crisis is the topic if the panel organized by the Harvard Graduate School of Design on May 15, 2012 in the framework of the exhibition "Made in Greece Plus: Architecture Now" presented at the Museum of Science, in Boston.

The panel investigates the role of design, innovation, and entrepreneurship during times of socioeconomical crisis. What types of value can design practice create or increase? In which ways do investments and the real estate affect the practice of architecture? Does this change reflect on architectural pedagogy and discourse? When the market is dragged down, is there opportunity for design and innovation? Finally, what is the role of innovation, and most importantly what kind of innovation should architects be in conversation with? Addressing the viewpoint of the client, the architect, and the society, this panel rethinks through the example of Greece the role of innovation, entrepreneurship, and design in times of economical crisis and social upheavals.

Participants: Benjamin Aranda (Principal of ArandaLasch), Nader Tehrani (NADAAA, Head of the Department of Architecture, MIT), Ioanna Theocharopoulou (Assistant Professor, Parsons), Iasson Tsakonas (Founder and Managing Director at OLIAROS). Moderated by Spiro Pollalis (Professor, Harvard GSD).

The exhibition "Made in Greece Plus: Architecture Now" presents contemporary projects from the architectural production and discussion in Greece the last five years that demonstrate how design thinking, technological innovation, and scientific research play a role in the creation of the human-made environment. The diverse repertoire includes works that use digital technology to reinterpret craftsmanship; incorporate landscape topography to complement built form; mutate traditional typologies to invent new; organize building volumes to reflect social structure; Through these examples, Made in Greece Plus illustrates the value of design in the current socioeconomic conditions in Greece.

Curatorial Team: Constantine Bouras, Nikolas Katsikis, Evangelos Kotsioris, Dimitris Papanikolaou, Zenovia Toloudi, Olga Touloumi, Dido Tsigaridi.
